Streamline Classroom Management with School- and District-wide Settings!

January 16, 2025

Get ready for a better way to manage classroom settings! Our new School and District-wide Settings feature simplifies how administrators ensure consistency across classrooms, all while giving teachers the flexibility to tailor to their classes.

What’s New?

We’ve introduced a powerful way for School and District Admins to set default classroom settings across their schools or districts. This PLUS feature makes it easier than ever to ensure uniformity while still allowing individual customization. Administrators can now define default settings across five major categories:

  • Features: Manage options like typing tests and the class scoreboard.

  • Account Settings: Control permissions for student profiles and passwords.

  • Lesson Progression: Set rules for lesson advancement, such as sequential or non-sequential progress.

  • Lesson Configuration: Adjust displays like the on-screen keyboard or backspace use.

  • Games: Determine default game availability.

These defaults apply automatically to new classes and existing classes without custom settings, streamlining the setup process.

How Does It Work?

Managing these settings is simple and efficient:

  1. Log in to a Typing.com admin account and click the name in the top-right corner.

  2. District Admins will see “District-wide Settings”, while School Admins will see “School-wide Settings.”

  3. Adjust the available settings in the five categories to fit your needs.

  4. Click the blue "Save" button to apply your changes across all classes.

Teachers can still customize individual class settings, but a green icon will indicate when a class setting differs from the defaults. At any time, teachers can reset a class back to the defaults by selecting “Reset to district or school default settings.”
